Dementia is the progressive decline in cognitive function due to damage or disease in the body beyond what might have been expected from normal ageing. Affected persons become disoriented in time, place and in person, leaving the patient and their family with an extremely stressful and emotional challenge.
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. The most recognized symptoms are confusion, memory loss, irritability and aggression, mood swings and a language breakdown.
